PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method and an apparatus in which the quality of the fusion state of a fusion coupling to a pipe can be judged easily. SOLUTION: Ultrasonic pulses are made incident, by an ultrasonic probe 18, in the thickness direction of a synthetic resin fusion coupling 16 and synthetic pipes 12, 14, and a plurality of reflected waves by the pulses are received. On the other hand, a gate by which a signal by reflected waves from the interface on one side of a fusion layer formed in the bonding part of the fusion coupling 16 to the pipes 12, 14 out of the reflected waves is set at a prescribed time after the incidence of the ultrasonic pulses. When the signal is passed through the gate, their fusion state is judged to be good. Then, a judged result is reported by a fusion report part 30. |
