PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape excellent in the high density recording by suppressing the decrease of output or the increase of error in the manner of improving the dimensional stability under the environment preserving the high humidity. SOLUTION: This magnetic tape is constituted in such a manner that at least an intermediate layer and an upper magnetic layer are provided in this order on one surface of nonmangnetic supporters and a back coat layer is provided on the opposite surface. In this case, the drying thickness of the upper magnetic layer is <=0.37μm, and the humidity expansion coefficients (A) in the longitudinal direction and thickness direction after 48 hours preservation of a medium at 50 deg.C, 80%RH are <=0.5% respectively.
