PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the display quality having a uniform multi-level characteristic by making at least one of the opposing electrode substrates to have desired projecting and recessing shapes using the reflow property of a color filter protective film. SOLUTION: The region corresponding to one display unit of at least one of the opposing substrate surfaces is formed in a projecting shape from its peripheral section to the inner section. A substrate 308 has color filters 311 and the projecting shape is formed employing the shape of a protective film 312 provided on the filters 311. The film 312 is formed in a projecting and recessing form over red, green and blue color filter patterns 311 formed on a glass substrate 308 and ITO electrodes 201, an insulating film 307 and an oriented film 304 are formed. An opposing side glass substrate 302 is similarly constituted with no color filters and no protective film. Then, the two substrates are made opposing to each other. Note that the distance between electrodes at the center section of one pixel is made smaller and the distance between electrodes is made larger outside the electrodes. |
