The error correction parameters are generated by a circuit calculating H = 2X mod N, which is used in Montgomery's method. The circuit has a first (201) and a second (202) register and a circuit (203,204) to subtract serially the from the contents of the first register 0, N, 2N or 3N. A multiplier (206) multiplies by four and comparators (210-213) compare the result with N, 2N and 3N.
