A knife having a handle section (10) and a blade section (12), the blade section (12) comprising a pair of opposed flanking side members (18, 20) and a replaceable blade insert (22) confined between the side members (18, 20) and held therebetween. The side members (18, 20) are joined together by a blade insert locator (26) so as to provide a slot for the blade insert (22). The blade insert (22) is configured to engage with the blade insert locator (26) so as to be held in place in the slot. The blade insert (22) includes a tang (22a) configured to extend into the handle section (10), and the handle section (10) is configured to receive the tang (22a) and to confine the tang (22a) within the handle section (10). The handle section (10) includes a tang spacer (24) positioned to separate the side members (18, 20) within the handle section (10) so that the tang (22a) fits within the handle section (10) between the side members (18, 20).
