Multifunctional operating device using virtual controls

The operating device uses a multifunctional operating knob (1) which can rotate about a longitudinal axis and which can move along this axis for controlling an image screen display provided with a number of virtual controls operated by rotation of the operating knob and virtual controls operated by axial movement of the operating knob. The latter is held within a frame (2) provided with a roller ball on its underside for displacement of the frame for controlling the position of a cursor displayed on the image screen.
