The invention relates to a composite material, especially for reflectors, comprising a strip-shaped metallic support (1), an intermediate layer, and an optical multilayer system (3) which is applied on top of said intermediate layer (2). A non-metallic protective layer (4) consisting of a low-absorption material is applied on top of the optical multilayer system, said protective layer having a thickness (D4) of 5 to 20 nm, preferably 5 to 10 nm.
