The invention concerns a method for artificially provoking an avalanche, consisting in a first step of filling a flexible envelope (2) with an explosive fluid (3) and a second step for triggering off an explosion of said fluid inside each envelope (2), each envelope (2) being destroyed by the exploding fluid. The destruction of the envelope brings about the propagation of a spherical air wave of excess pressure which will affect an optimal surface of the snow cover to be evacuated and will shake said surface and provoke an avalanche. The invention also concerns a device for implementing said method, comprising at least one envelope (2) for containing the explosive fluid, means for filling each envelope with said fluid, and means (4) for causing said fluid to explode inside each envelope.
