FILTER APPARATUS WITH DUAL DRIVE LOOPS

An improved filter apparatus includes an upper tank (22) for holding dirty liquid and has a perforated plate (28). A lower compartment (26) is beneath the plate (28) for receiving liquid from the upper tank (24). A permanent filter belt (32) for filtering particulate from the dirty liquid is arranged in a first circulating path across the plate (28). A first pair of drive loops (41) are attached on respective sides of the belt (32). A drag conveyor (44) having flights (46) is arranged in a second circulating path across the plate (28). The belt (32) is positioned between the plate (28) and the flights (46) of the conveyor (44) across the plate (28). A second pair of drive loops (42) are attached on respective sides of the flights (46). A driving mechanism (66) is operable with the drive loops (41 and 42) for indexing the belt (32) and the conveyor (44) along the circulating paths such that a fresh segment of the belt (32) is periodically indexed over the plate (28) while a dirty segment of the belt (32) is being cleaned and the flights (46) of the conveyor (44) carry accumulated particulate filtered by the belt (32).
