Production of an electrically conducting metal strip comprises roughening a core strip made from a copper material having a thickness of 3-4 mm and an electrical conductivity of at least 20 m/ OMEGA mm<2> on one flat side; roll-bonding the roughened flat side with a 0.15-0.20 mm thick metal layer made from a copper-nickel-zinc alloy containing 53.5-56.5 wt.% copper, 16.5-19.5 wt.% nickel, maximum 0.2 wt.% tin, maximum 0.3 wt.% iron, maximum 0.5 wt.% impurities and a balance of zinc with the addition of a rolling emulsion; and diffusion calcining.
