The voltage supply includes a rectifier coupled to a secondary coil of a high voltage transformer having a primary coil with a setting member (1) and a choke (15). The setting member is formed from a controllable bridge (11-14) having a DC branch in the choke. Only the half bridge (11,12) is controllable and can be adjusted. Thyristors are positioned in different branches of the half bridge and control its response. Alternatively, IGBTs can be used as the controllable elements arranged in the same or different branches.
