Apparatus facilitating access to and departure from a vehicle (1, figure 1) by a disabled or invalided person comprises powered mechanisms 30b, 34b for operating elevating, lateral transfer and lowering components 23, 24, 25, 25a mounting a seat support 15 provided with or arranged to receive seating assembly 9,10 on which said person can be seated. The seat support 15 being located in a first position over and in secure engagement with a fixed vehicle seat base unit 11, being raised and thereafter movable to and from said first position to a second position outwardly of the door access opening (5) and thereafter lowered to allow access to or removal from the seating assembly 9,10. Preferably a fixed frame 6 carries a mount 25 swivelled by motor 30b and carrying in turn an elevatorable mount 23 raised or lowered by motor 34b which in turn carries the seat support 15. Preferably, the base unit 11 has projections 21 with which the seat support 15 mates when in the first position to prevent lateral movement. |
