The adjacent ends of two multi-layered material strips (16,16a) following one another in the conveyor direction are joined to one another, by welding their strip layers (17,17a, 18,18a) in the area of their abutting edges. Following this, the strip layers are separated from one another. The adjacent ends of the two multi-layer material strips (16,16a) are pushed one over the other by an overlapping extent and then the overlapping area of each strip layer (17,17a,18,18a) is welded. The free ends of the strip layers (18,18a) near to the welding apparatus (24) are unfolded and the free ends of the strip layers (17,17a) facing away from the welding apparatus are freed, after which the free ends are welded to each other. |
