Control method for engine braking in vehicles with an automatic clutch

The system comprises an automated clutch which is arranged in drive sequence between the drive unit and the gearbox. When the brake operating state is with or without retardation of the vehicle, a counter registers with a predetermined increment. If the brake is not operated, again with or without retardation of the vehicle, the counter registers with a predetermined decrement. A closure of the automated clutch is triggered when the counter reaches a predetermined value or exceeds it, or an opening of the automated clutch is triggered when the counter records below a predetermined value. The counter is of the time activated type.
