A moistener system 10 for an envelope handling device the includes a reservoir assembly 20, a tape well assembly 80 and an envelope well assembly 100, for wetting both tapes and envelope flaps. The moistener module includes a reservoir tank 40 for holding a supply of reservoir water at a predetermined height H r ; a tape well tank 84 directly coupled to the reservoir tank 40 via a hose 82 so that the reservoir water is capable of flowing into the tank 84 up to the predetermined height H r ; and an envelope well tank 140 for holding water at a different height H sr from the predetermined height H r , the tank 140 being coupled to the reservoir tank 40 via a hose 106 and a trap 56. The trap 56 establishes a pressure differential between the predetermined height H r and a level of water H 1 within the trap; and the reservoir water is capable of flowing through the second well tank hose 106 and the trap 56 into the tank 140 up to the different height H sr as air is captured within the trap 56 to balance the pressure differential. An intermediate reservoir tank 120 and hose 104 may be provided. |
