PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a packed rice ball having a taste and a texture essential to the rice ball and preservable for several days at normal temperatures without deteriorating the simplicity which is an advantage of the rice ball heretofore sold in a convenience store or the like in simple equipment with a small number of persons. SOLUTION: A prescribed amount of washed and immersed rice 2 is filled in a container 1 of a prescribed shape and cooking water 3 is then added to primarily cook the rice 2 and simultaneously carry out the primary sterilizing treatment. The cooked rice 4 is then pressed from the face side and an opening of the container 1 is hermetically sealed with a film. The container 1 is deformed when receiving a negative pressure in the container 1 consequent on a temperature drop after the hermetic sealing. Thereby, a pressing force for rolling and hardening the rice ball in the container l is applied thereto. |
