PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a newly identified response regulator polynucleotide useful for (A) screening compounds as for antibiotic activity, (B) determining a role in pathogenesis of infection, functional disorders or diseases, or (C) prevention, amelioration or cure of the same. SOLUTION: This polynucleotide is an isolated polynucleotide comprising a polynucleotide sequence encoding a polypeptide having at least a 70% identity to a total of formula I, and has at least a 70% identity to the nucleotide sequence of formula II. The polynucleotide encoding response regulator polypeptides of the invention may be obtained by standard cloning and screening methods, such as those for cloning and sequencing DNA fragments from a deposit containing a Streptococcus pneumoniae 0100993 strain assigned NCIMB (National Collections of Industrial and Marine Bacteria Ltd.) Deposit No.40794, followed by obtaining a full length clone. |
