摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide photocatalytic silica gel which contains titanium oxide in the fine pores having a huge specific surface area, photocatalytic silica gel which contains at least one metal selected from transition elements or its oxide in the pores of the silica gel, and the production method thereof. SOLUTION: Photocatalytic silica gel has the average thickness of the titanium oxide film fixed on the surface in the range of 0-0.4 μm, and contains 0.05-75 wt.% of titanium oxide in the pores of the silica gel when dried at 200 deg.C. The above photocatalytic silica gel is produced by the heat and baking method or the like after containing the titania sol prepared from an alkoxide, alcoholamines or glycols of titanium in the silica gel, and washing the titania sol adhering to the surface of the silica gel with a cleaning liquid which is compatible with the alkoxide of titanium.
