PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain colored mica useful as a pigment which imparts a beautiful color and a good glass to hair by forming a titanium dioxide layer of a specified optical thickness on the surface of mica. SOLUTION: A titanium dioxide layer of 400-800 nm optical thickness is formed on the surface of mica to obtain the objective colored mica. The pref. thickness of the colored mica is 0.3-2.0μm, particularly 0.4-1.2μm. The titanium dioxide-contg. colored mica is, e.g. mica titanium or coated mica titanium obtd. by further coating mica titanium with a dye or pigment such as red iron oxide, Carmine, Prussian blue or red iron oxide.Prussian blue but mica titanium, red iron oxide coated mica titanium or Carmine coated mica titanium is preferably used because it lightens hair by interference light and imparts a good gloss. The amt. of the colored mica added to a hair coloring compsn. is preferably 0.5-10 wt.%.
