PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of firing particulate powder of lithium cobalt oxide (LiCoO2 ) useful as a positive electrode active material of a lithium battery having high electromotive force and capable of densifying it in high energy for a short-time. SOLUTION: Microcrystalline particulate powder of cobalt oxide having a 30-200 m<2> /g BET specific surface area or particulate powder of cobalt oxide having a <=0.1 μm average particle diameter is mixed with a lithium compd., 1-30 wt.% water content is added to the powdery mixture and this mixture to add the water content is compacted to obtain a compact having >=1.5 g/cc compacting density. After the compact is fired in an oxygen-contg. gas, is pulverized. |
