PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer recording medium for obtaining a transfer image having a good image quality with excellent fixability and scratch resistance. SOLUTION: In the thermal transfer recording medium comprising a thermal transfer ink layer formed directly or via a release layer on a support; the ink layer contains a thermoplastic resin, a hot meltable substance and a coloring agent as main components. And, a surface strength of the ink layer is 8 mN/mm or more.
