PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the basic brick used by combining with a castable refractory at an immersed pipe part, etc., of an RH degassing device. SOLUTION: A magnesia source or/and spinel source having 0.1-1 wt.% B2 O3 content is used as the source of the basic brick. In the magnesia source and spinel starting source, a slaking is hardly caused since an active point of these sources are inactivated with a low melting compd. of MgO and B2 O3 by increasing the B2 O3 content in the source. Moreover, even when the basic brick is produced by using the sources, a resistance to the slaking is maintained. Therefore, the basic refractory brick is improved in service property since the structure deterioration due to the slaking and the formation of the cracking due to expansion are reduced since a resistance to the slaking is improved. |
