PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of exhaust toxic component values in the state where the wall surface temperature of a combustion chamber wall just after start is low by controlling an ignition timing so as to be a target ignition timing until a set time passed from the start, and gently transferred to a lag side target ignition timing after the lapse of the set time. SOLUTION: An engine control device 124 controls an ignition timingαso as to be a general target ignition timing until a set time passed from the start of an engine, and gently transferred therefrom to a lag side target ignition timing after the lapse of the set time by a control means 126. Thus, the temperature of the catalyst 36 of a catalytic converter 28 can be quickly raised without deteriorating the exhaust toxic component value just after start. Therefore, deterioration of combustion in the state where the wall surface temperature of a combustion chamber in the starting of the engine in the cold air is improved, and generation of exhaust toxic components can be reduced.
