PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reformer to enable effective utilization of a whole catalyst layer and sufficient shift reaction, to enhance a space velocity and to reduce a pressure drop. SOLUTION: This reformer consists of a hollow cylindrical vessel 30 in which an opening part as an introduction port 31 for introducing the vapor of a methanol aq. solution employed as a raw fuel is formed in the central part of one axial end of the vessel 30 and another opening part as a delivery port 32 for delivering a reforming gas is formed in the central part of the other axial end of the vessel 30, a catalyst layer 7 composed of a hollow cylindrical body 70 which has a smaller outer diameter and a shorter length in the axial direction than the outer diameter and the length of the vessel 30 respectively and is placed within the vessel 30, also in which one axial end of the layer is stuck to the one axial end of the vessel 30, further, in which a plate 8 for closing a central opening of the other axial end of the layer is provided and using a partial oxidation reaction as the reforming reaction, an internal space 71 formed in the inside of the hollow cylindrical catalyst layer and communicated with the introducing port 31 and an external space 72 which is formed in the outside of the hollow cylindrical catalyst layer 7 and communicated with the delivery port 32 wherein the cross-sectional area of the passage in the external space 72 is made so as to be larger than that in the internal space 71. |
