PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject new compound useful as a developer for heat- sensitive recording materials giving images having high storability, excellent oil resistance, antiplasticity and heat resistance in image portions. SOLUTION: A compound of formula I (R is a hydroxyl group, an alkoxyl, a sulfonyloxy group or the like; X is a 2-6C alkylene, a group of formula II, a group of formula III or the like), for example, a compound expressed by formula IV. The compound of formula I is obtained, for example, by allowing 4-hydroxyphthalic anhydride to react with 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane in an organic solvent (for example, acetic acid, acetic anhydride, acetonitrile, acetone or methyl ethyl ketone) at a reaction temperature of room temperature to the boiling point of the solvent, preferably at a reaction temperature of 20 to 50 deg.C for 2 hr under agitation, charging the reaction solution into water to deposit the crystals, filtering off the crystals, washing the crystals with water, dispersing the crystals in water, dropwisely adding an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution to the crystals to dissolve the crystals, filtering the obtained solution, and subsequently dropwisely adding an aqueous hydrochloric acid to the obtained filtrate to deposit the crystals. |
