PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detergent composition having excellent stability not only just after the preparation but also after passing of time, and also excellent in a low temperature stability and also in water retentivity and detergency by including smectite and glycol fatty ester. SOLUTION: This detergent composition contains (A) 0.01-3 wt.%, preferably 0.1-1.5 wt.% of smectite (preferably one having 2-8 hedron type such as montmorillonite, beidellite, nontronite, etc., and having 10-5,000 nm average particle diameter measured by a dynamic light scattering method, >=30 mV absolute value ofξ-potential measured by an electrophoresis method and >=90% purity measured by a powder X-ray diffraction method) and (B) 0.5-20 wt.%, preferably 1-15 wt.% of a glycol fatty ester (an ester such as those of lauric acid, myristic acid, stearic acid or coconut oil fatty acid with ethylene glycol or propylene glycol).
