LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with which the occurrence of cut defects is suppressed and the degradation in a yield by glass chipping and the generation of glass splinters is prevented and a process for producing this liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: Spacers 210 formed to an island form reactilinearly at approximately equal spaced intervals on mother glass 200M for a counter substrate are brought into contact with the top of scribed lines formed on mother glass 100M for an array substrate. When uniform impact is applied from the mother glass side for the counter substrate existing right above the scribed lines, the impact is concentrated to the spacers 210 and this impact is transmitted to the mother glass side for the array substrate via the spacers. As a result, the cracks forming the scribed lines progress in the direction approximately perpendicular to the glass plane and the mother glass for the array substrate is cut without the occurrence of the cut defects.
