PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a step index(S1) type plastic optical fiber(POF) and an SI type POF cable provided with practical light transmission loss performance, a wide band characteristic and mechanical strength. SOLUTION: In the POF cable having four layers consisting of core, clad, protection, and jacket layers, a core diameter is 0.5 to 1.5 mmϕ, the apature number of a fiber is 0.24 to 0.40, a transmission band in 100 m fiber length and under total mode excitation condition is 80 to 340 MHz, transmission loss is <=200 dB/km, the increment of transmission loss at 20 mmR-180 deg. bend is s <=1 dB, and breaking bend frequency at 15 mmR±90 deg. repeated bend is >=10,000 times. In an exit far field pattern(FFP) after 100 m propagation measured under the total mode excitation condition, a ratio R=Rp/S of an integration value Sp in a range of an exit angle >=-20 deg. and >=+20 deg. to an integration value S in a total angle range is >=98%. |
