PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required for defoaming over the entire part of liquid crystals by rotating a cylindrical vessel around its axial line in a posture of inclining the axial line of this cylindrical vessel diagonally upward with respect to a horizontal line within an evacuated hermetic chamber. SOLUTION: A supporting and rotating means 6 of the cylindrical vessel 4 rotates the cylindrical vessel 4 around its axial line 4a in an attitude with the axial line 4a tilted by a suitable angleθobliquely upward with respect to the horizontal line 7 in the hermetic chamber. The cylindrical vessel 4 into which the liquid crystals 5 to be subjected to a defoaming treatment is put into the posture inclining the axial line 4a of the cylindrical vessel 4 obliquely upward with respect to the horizontal line 7, by which the liquid surface 5a of the liquid crystals 5 put into the cylindrical vessel 4 is made horizontal and the area thereof is widened by as much as the obliquely upward inclined component of the cylindrical vessel 4 with respect to the horizontal line 7 and, therefore, the defoaming may be executed at the liquid surface of the wider area.
