On receipt of a transmission (115) from a mobile station (220), a decision is made to forward an element of the data (230) to the base station controller (204). This in turn results in a selective response from the base station controller to the mobile switching centre (202). In addition an acknowledgement of correct receipt of the data is sent back to the mobile station from the base station controller.
