PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolysis-type COD sensor and a measurement method of COD using the sensor. SOLUTION: An electrolysis-type COD sensor 10 is provided with an electrolysis tank 14 for accommodating sample water, an operation electrode 16 and a counter electrode 20 that are arranged in the electrolysis tank 14 and are made of metal. Voltage is applied or current is energized between both electrodes, constant-potential or constant-current electrolysis is made, an organic matter in the sample water is subjected to electrolysis oxidation, then amount of electricity is measured, and the COD of the sample water is obtained. The operation electrode 16 is made of nickel, platinum, gold, silver, cobalt, titanium, chrome, or copper and the counter electrode 20 is made of platinum. As compared with a conventional potassium permanganate method or potassium dichromate method, operation is extremely simple, the need of any particular technique is eliminated, time required for measurement is short, and there are no problems regarding liquid waste. |
