PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image pickup system where a camera parameter for focusing, etc., is optimized in all the area on a photographic image by providing a synthesis means for synthesizing an image based on the position of a stored image area when all the image area in the image is stored by a storage means. SOLUTION: A detection area setting part 1-3 detects the signal of the detection area in the image picked up by the image pickup system 1-2. A lens control part 1-4 controls the camera parameter based on the signal of the detection area detected by the setting part 1-3. The storage means such as an RAM 1-7 stores the image in the detection area where the camera parameter is controlled. A moving means (CPU 1-6 and detection area setting part 1-3) moves the detection area to an area different from the image area corresponding to the stored image. When all the image areas in the image are stored by the storage means, the synthesis means (CPU 1-6 and RAM 1-7) synthesizes the image based on the position of the stored image area.
