Production of aryl and aralkyl substituted uracil derivatives useful as herbicides

Aryl- and aralkyl-uracils are produced by heating new aminoalkenoic acid amide derivatives to 40-120 deg C. Some of the aminoalkenoic acid amide derivatives are prepared from new pyrimidone derivatives. Production of ar(alk)yl-uracils of formula (I) comprises heating an aminoalkenoic acid derivative of formula (IIa) or (IIb) optionally in a diluent at 40-120 deg C. A = single bond or alkanediyl; Ar = optionally substituted aryl; R1 = optionally substituted alkyl; R2 = H; halo; or alkyl. Independent claims are also included for: (A) aminoalkenoic acid derivatives (IIa); (B) aminoalkenoic acid derivatives (IIb); (C) the preparation of the aminoalkenoic acid derivatives (IIa); (D) the preparation of the aminoalkenoic acid derivatives (IIb); (E) pyrimidone derivatives of formula (III); and (F) the preparation of the pyrimidone derivatives (III).
