Use of 3,7-diaminophenothiazines of formula (I) for dyeing keratin-containing fibres is new: R1 and R2 = NH2, NHR8 or NR8R9; R3-R6 = H or 1-4C alkyl; R7 = H, halogen or NO2; R8 and R9 = 1-4C alkyl; X = a mineral or organic acid anion; provided that at least one of R3-R6 is alkyl when R1 and R2 are both NR8R9. Also claimed is a composition for dyeing keratin-containing fibres, especially human hair, comprising (A) one or more compounds (I), (B) oxidation dye precursors selected from developers and couplers, and/or (C) condensation dye precursors selected from reactive carbonyl compounds, primary or secondary aromatic amines, N-containing heterocyclic compounds and aromatic hydroxy compounds.
