Vehicle crash protection system

The crash protection system is fitted to a vehicle (1). It includes at least one fender (2), which can be moved by a positioning device (3) between a rest position against the vehicle chassis and a further-out crash position. An energy converter is fitted between the fender and the vehicle chassis to convert kinetic impact energy acting on the fender in opposite to travel direction (Pf1) into mechanical work or some similar form of energy.
