In the method proposed, a web (6) of fusible fabric is divided, during the course of its manufacture, into strips or tapes (4) by means of a thermal cutting device (36). In order to improve the cut edges of the tapes (4), a shaping device (54) is used to smooth down any protruding bulges and consolidate the cut edges.
