The sensor (1) is located in or at flux container (2) or in a flux delivery line (13) so that the solids content of the flux is determined at the flux surface, within the container or in the delivery line. The sensor is an ultrasonic sensor. Dependent on the data provided by the sensor, the composition of the flux is adjusted by a control unit (3) via additives dosing units (5, 19) to maintain the solids content within specified limits. The frequency of ultrasound of the sensor is adjusted by the control unit (3) dependent on the flux being used.
