TRANSACTION ROLL FORWARD

In a method of monitoring transactions in a network application, a transaction l og is maintained at a node, and a separate log is maintained. A playback is impleme nted which relies on the application to replay the original knowledge context of the transaction, and if this replayed mechanism fails, a transaction rollback mechan ism is invoked to restore both the application and the node to a mutually consistent st ate.
