<p>A container (1) for storing granular material such as PET comprises a silo with an outlet (4) at its lower end. The silo includes a bypass tube (10) connected to an upper part of the silo, typically at a level around 55 % of the overall silo height. This tube is connected to the outlet. A sensor (12) and shut-off valve (13) within the bypass tube detect presence of material within the tube and allow its passage to the outlet. When the level of granules falls below the 55 % level, no granules will enter the tube, the sensor will activate shut-off of the valve. Thus below the 55 % level, granules will be extracted from the lower part of the silo. This has been found to reduce or eliminate noise caused by settling of the granules within the silo which has previously been a problem particularly when the silo was over 55 % full.</p> |
