Microbiocidally effective surfaces for reduction of smell and microbial population in air conditioning units

A microbiocidally effective surface (I) on components and finished products is claimed whereby the surface is coated with a paint layer that contains a microbiocidal material (II). Independent claims are included for: (i) preparation of (I) by applying a thin layer of paint containing (II) onto the clean, optionally cleaned surface and hardening the paint and; (ii) a process for the reducing the smell from air conditioning units, preferably in a vehicle by applying (II) onto at least a portion of the surfaces that are in contact with the air stream whereby copper powder is applied to the surfaces and/or (II) is contained in a paint layer.
