A transmission clutch 39 and a shift drum 81, which changes the gear ratios of a transmission T, are connected by clutch arm 68 and change arm 87 to a shift spindle 51 that is rotated by an electric actuator, eg motor 58. A shift up/down switch (see fig 3) located on handlebars of a saddle ridden type vehicle, eg a quad, is operated by a rider. The switch is connected to a controller, receiving signals regarding the vehicle speed, the shift position of the transmission etc, which activates the motor 58 to rotate the shift spindle 51 in a prescribed direction, thereby disengaging the clutch 39 altering the gear ratio then, in a predetermined timing, engaging the clutch 39. To prevent shocks to the transmission, the clutch 39 is engaged at a slower speed than it is disengaged. Motor 58 is feed-back controlled based on signals received from a rotational phase detector, eg a potentiometer 56. Clutch 39 is operated by a cam and ball type mechanism and a centrifugal clutch (38, fig 4) is also provided.
|
