The coupling comprises a socket for connection to a plug 2 with a peripheral groove 2a and including a main body 1 having a receiving hole, a sleeve 3 having a front end portion axially slidably inserted in this hole, a base portion located outside this hole, an axial through hole for the plug 2 such that it can slide therein, and inwardly tapered radial through holes 3g,h at circumferentially regular intervals holding corresponding lock members 4 able to project into the axial through hole. The main body has an internal escape groove 13 allowing the members 4 to move outwardly when the plug 2 is inserted, before dropping radially into the groove 2a to retain it. The sleeve has axially extending slits between the holes 3g,h to provide fingers allowing inward flexing upon sleeve insertion and consequential axial sleeve retention in the body 1. A lock ring 7 prevents inadvertent sleeve operation to release the plug 2. Optionally, the holes 3g,h are open-ended, the members 4 being retained on one side by a spring-biassed support ring. |
