PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily obtain a cordierite porous body having excellent heat resistance and thermal shock resistance and uniformly distributed pores having fixed pore diameters, by using only amorphous glass powder having a specific composition, molding and sintering mixed powder having an adjusted particle size. SOLUTION: Amorphous glass comprising 40-65 wt.% of a silica component, 25-45 wt.% of alumina component and 10-16 wt.% of an alumina component and 10-16 wt.% of a magnesium component is powdered. The ground glass powder is mixed and adjusted by a mixer, plastic balls, etc., so that the glass powder comprises 50-95 wt.% of glass powder having 50-150 micron particle diameters and 5-50 wt.% of glass powder having <=10 micron particle diameter. The adjusted mixed powder is molded by a method such as a mold molding, an extrusion molding, etc., sintered at 1,000-1,450 deg.C to give the objective cordierite porous body having 10-100 micron average pore diameter, a uniform pore diameter distribution and about 25-50% apparent porosity. |
