PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer capable of surely cleaning an ejection passage for ink by purging and of adequately suppressing waste of the ink due to the purging. SOLUTION: A nozzle head 31 is so designed that a passage resistance of an entire nozzle 32 is smaller than a passage resistance of an outward passage 37. As a result, in the case where a nozzle face 36 is opened, a major part of ink 400 poured into an inward passage 35 is discharged outside from the nozzle 32 when driving a pump 120. When a rubber pad 115 is pressed against the nozzle face 36, it is possible to prevent the ink 400 from being discharged from the nozzle 32. At that time, all the ink 400 poured into the inward passage 35 is circulated to a sub-chamber 13 via the outward passage 37 to be recycled. After the rubber pad 115 is pressed against the nozzle face 36 and the purging is executed, the rubber pad 115 is separated therefrom and the purging is executed, thereby surely cleaning an ejection passage by preventing the waste of the ink 400. |
