PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon/carbon composite material having a light weight and excellent mechanical characteristics at high temperatures and facilitating the coating of ceramics or metals on the composite material by combining a carbonaceous matrix with amorphous structure carbon fibers having a specific heat conductivity and a specified thermal expansion coefficient. SOLUTION: This carbon/carbon composite material comprises a carbonaceous matrix and carbon fibers having a heat conductivity of 1-25 W/m.k at 25 deg.C and a thermal expansion coefficient of -0.8×10<-6> to 5×10<-6> /K at 25 deg.C. The carbon fibers have amorphous inner structures, and a thermal treatment in a process for forming the composite material is preferably carried out in a calcination temperature range of 900-2,200 deg.C not accelerating the crystallization of the amorphous structure. The carbon fibers as a unidirectional material, a woven fabric, a three-dimensional woven fabric or a felt are impregnated with the carbonaceous matrix, accumulated and subsequently calcined to produce the primary molded product. The carbonaceous matrix is obtained by thermally treating a thermoplastic resin, a thermosetting resin, a pitch or the like as a raw material. The primary molded product is, if necessary, subjected to a compacting treatment. The composite/composite composite material is hardly peeled from a laminated surface to a metal or the like. |
