PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyol good in workability and curability, and capable of giving a cured product of high crosslink density and excellent solvent resistance, chemical resistance and coating film properties, by reaction of a specific triol with a specific lactone or cyclic ether. SOLUTION: This polyol is obtained by reaction of (A) a triol of formula I (R<1> to R<3> are each an alkyl or the like) (e.g. 3-hydroxymethyl-1,6-hexanediol) with (B) a lactone of formula II (R<4> is a cycloalkyl or the like; (n) is 1-6) (e.g.ε-caprolactone) or (C) a cyclic ether of formula III (R<5> is an alkyl or the like; (n) is 0-7) (e.g. ethylene oxide). The other objective polyurethane resin is obtained by reaction of the above polyol with a polyisocyanate compound pref. at 10-100 deg.C.
