PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the constitution which allows not only the start of reaction but also the preheating prior to the reaction, the heat makeup and compensation during the reaction and the slow cooling of a reaction product after the reaction by executing heat input of high accuracy from the outside of a system in a stage for producing sintered compacts based on the combustion synthesis reaction. SOLUTION: This apparatus includes a die 17 having a shaft-like space limited by an electrically insulating and refractory material for housing a compsn. which can induce the combustion synthesis reaction and is used for pressurizing the same, an induction coil 21 for heating the compsn. arranged around this die and a pressurizing device 19 for pressurizing and compressing the compsn. by pressurization in an axial direction as component elements. The process for effective production includes the following stage; (1) a stage for packing a starting material contg. a raw material powder mixture for the combustion synthesis reaction composed to form the target compd. and diamond powder into the die 17 having an electrical insulation characteristic, (2) a stage for pressurizing this starting material, (3) a stage for initiating the combustion synthesis reaction by energizing the induction heating coil 21 arranged around the die, thereby igniting the compd. raw material and (c) a stage for pressurizing the combustion synthesis reaction product.
