GALLIUM-68 CHLORIDE ANHYDRIDE AND GALLIUM 68 COMPLEX OF PORPHYRIN DERIVATIVE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a gallium-68 chloride anhydride having affinity to tumor tissues by heating a hydrochloric acid soln. of gallium-68 chloride in an inert gas under reduced pressure to remove water. SOLUTION: A hydrochloric acid soln. of gallium-68 chloride having radioactivity as about 370 MBq and about 99% radiochemical purity is heated at about 70 deg.C in an inert gas under reduced pressure of about 100 mHg to remove the water content to obtain gallium-68 chloride anhydride. A pyridine soln. of the gallium-68 chloride anhydride is reacted with a porphyrin deriv. by heating and refluxing under conditions of an excess amt. of gallium ion or an excess amt. of porphyrin deriv. to obtain a gallium-68 complex of porphyrin deriv. The gallium-68 chloride anhydride or gallium-68 complex of porphyrin deriv. is used as a tracer to detect tumor tissues by position emission tomography.
