PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject preparation exhibiting strengthened medicinal efficacy, enhanced in safety, inhibiting excessive blood sugar after eating, extended in its stay in digestive tracts, and useful as an antidiabetic medicine by including a carbonydrase inhibitor. SOLUTION: This oral sustained release preparation contains (A) a carbohydrase inhibitor, preferably anα-glucosidase inhibitor or voglibose in an amount of about 0.05-0.5 wt.% based on the total amount of the preparation. The preparation may preferably further contain (B) a matrix comprising a polyglycerol fatty acid ester (having a mol.wt. of about 200-500 and a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance of 1-15) and/or a lipid in an amount of about 0.01-10000 pts.wt. based on the component A, and (C) a substance showing a viscous property in the presence of water, concretely an acrylic acid polymer in an amount of about 0.05-99% based on the matrix.
