PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lower the probability of occurrence of uneven distribution of a liquid by arranging corrugated packing sheets in a manner that both ends of packing sheets having the outward corrugated pattern are surrounded with packing sheets having inward corrugated pattern in the whole vertical rim part. SOLUTION: In a distillation column in an extremely low temperature air separation system for producing oxygen and nitrogen, a large number of packing sheets are housed while being layered. At the time of arranging the packing sheets, respective outwardly facing packing sheets 12 are so installed as not to extend outside more than the vertical faces of the shortest neighboring and inwardly facing packing sheets. By arranging the packing sheets in such a manner, the respective outwardly facing packing sheets 12 are provided with contact points for transporting a liquid to the inwardly facing packing sheets 10 along the whole length of the outside vertical length. Consequently, the amount of a liquid possibly brought into contact with the inner face of the shell wall 18 or a liquid accumulated in the peripheral parts of the packing sheets can be lowered and the probability of occurrence of uneven distribution of a liquid can be lowered.
